The growing popularity of CBD shows no sign of slowing down and every day there seems to be another claim for how it can benefit the body and mind. Cannabidiol is a phytocannabinoid discovered in 1940 and is one of 113 identified cannabinoids in cannabis plants. When anyone thinks cannabis they automatically think of the “high” that THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) the chemical responsible for most of marijuana’s psychological effects causes. The legal status of CBD still is in debate but it is now generally accepted providing that the THC content is 0.3% or less. Marijuana and hemp both contain THC and CBD, however, marijuana contains far more THC than hemp and most CBD is derived from hemp.

There are serious studies taking place to confirm whether it has benefits which many are convinced it has for aiding sleep and Both CBD and THC work with receptors that release neurotransmitters in your brain. Both CBD and THC can affect things like  mood and memory. There is also increasing evidence that CBD can help with epilepsy and there are many research projects ongoing to examine its use by the medical profession.

At this point it does seem to assist with sleeping problems and stress related issues. There are a few manufacturers that sell CBD with the low level of THC (0.0 – to a max of 0.3%). It is worth noting that, although unlikely, if there is a minute amount of THC, although having no “high” effect it could show up in the highly sensitive test for THC. Therefore if that is a concern talk to your medical professional as you should anyway if pregnant or if you have any significant health issues.

I personally find that it helps with my sleeping as do many others. I know others that feel that it helps with pain. I don’t know whether my constant headaches were improved by CBD or whether it was a coincidence or not and I’m not claiming that it was the CBD but I will continue taking what is increasingly being seen as a natural aid to various ailments. I look forward to further research and hope that evidence is found to confirm the benefits of this natural ingredient.
